Mercy is a description of God and his very nature
The earth is full of God’s mercy (Ps. 119:64).
God’s mercy reaches to the heavens (Ps. 36:5; 57:10).
God’s mercy endures forever (Ps. 100:5).
God is rich in mercy (Eph. 2:4).
Mercy is also a description of God’s relationship with people
God’s mercy is the ground for a person’s appeal to God in times of trouble (Ps.
59:16).
Hope comes alive in people because of God’s mercy (1 Peter 1:3).
God hears us when we pray because of his mercy (Ps. 66:20).
Salvation in Christ is available to the world because of God’s mercy (Titus 3:5)
To be merciful means to think of others as God thinks of them, to feel for others as God feels
for them, to act toward others as God acts toward them. It means to have the same attitude of mercy that God has toward others.
Above everything else, God demands mercy of us. In God’s sight, mercy is superior
to religious activities (Hos. 6:6). The prophet Micah said that God requires us
to “do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God” (Mic. 6:8).
Mercy is love with hands and feet. It is not a vague, general benevolence but a love that
shows compassion in deed as well as word.
To be merciful toward our fellow humans means to have compassion on those who are at our mercy. Jesus said to the woman caught in adultery, “Go, and sin no more.”
Conclusion: Jesus attached a promise to mercy for anyone who will give it or show it.
“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.” (Matthew 5:7). For with the measure you give, it will be given unto you!
Walter; I know that if it wasn’t for His mercy, I wouldn,t be here today.. Thank you Lord… Bro Pat.
